Plainfield Village is a census-designated place located in Windham County, Connecticut. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 2,638.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.3 km² (1.7 mi²). 4.2 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.80% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,638 people, 959 households, and 648 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 621.1/km² (1,605.5/mi²). There are 1,007 housing units at an average density of 237.1/km² (612.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 94.66% White, 1.48% African American, 0.80% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.21% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. 2.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 959 households out of which 36.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.0% are married couples living together, 14.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.4% are non-families. 24.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.03.
