Pismo Beach is a city located in San Luis Obispo County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,551.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 34.8 km² (13.4 mi²). 9.3 km² (3.6 mi²) of it is land and 25.5 km² (9.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 73.09% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 8,551 people, 4,230 households, and 2,322 families residing in the city. The population density is 914.6/km² (2,366.0/mi²). There are 5,496 housing units at an average density of 587.8/km² (1,520.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 91.35% White, 0.60% African American, 0.71% Native American, 2.92% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 1.65% from other races, and 2.71% from two or more races. 6.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,230 households out of which 17.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.1% are married couples living together, 6.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.1% are non-families. 35.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.02 and the average family size is 2.58.
In the city the population is spread out with 15.3% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 28.4% from 45 to 64, and 24.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $46,396, and the median income for a family is $61,036. Males have a median income of $48,606 versus $30,189 for females. The per capita income for the city is $30,835. 9.0% of the population and 6.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.5% of those under the age of 18 and 4.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
