Pete Reiser
|
Pete Reiser (1919-81), the original "Pistol Pete," was an outfielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers (and later the Boston Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians) whose splendid career would have lasted longer if his hell-for-leather style of play had not caused him so many injuries. He fractured his skull running into the outfield wall on one occasion (but still made the throw back to the infield), was temporarily paralyzed on another and was taken off the field on a stretcher many more times.
