Perkygoth

A perkygoth is an archetype appearing in a few contemporary comic books. The may embrace many of the trappings of "gothic" culture, such as fashion and musical tastes. The key difference lies in their light-hearted and cheerful (i.e. perky) demeanor, rather than the dark and depressive manner and atmosphere that is typically associated with the goth subculture.
Neil Gaiman's graphic novel Sandman features the character Death, one of the most widely recognized and beloved 'perkygoths' known in media. In the webcomic Megatokyo, Miho Tohya has been described by the author as a perkygoth. The works of Jhonen Vasquez can be considered perkygoth as well. Lastly, Gilly of Dork Tower is an archetypical representation of the genre, her merchandise being marketed under that term. For example, one of the T-shirt states "Perky Goth: Putting the Romance Back in Necromancy."
In the UK, the alternative spellings "Perkygoff" and "Perkigoff" are quite prevalent.
