Pattani

Mueang Pattani is a city in the far south of Thailand, near the boundary to Malaysia. It is the capital of the Pattani province. The city has a population of 43,690 (2000 census), and is located at Template:Coor dm.
Historically Pattani used to be the capital of an independent Malay kingdom, the Pattani kingdom. It was once the center of Islamic education and earned the title cradle of Islam for the Malay muslim world. The goverment strives to incorporate the Thai language and culture into the local islamic religious schools. The outcome of the government's effort shows that the students of the Islamic private schools now mastered Thai, Malay and Arabic.
