The word Para- in English, is an affix of ancient Greek origin, mostly used as a prefix.
It means: Against, counter, outside or beyond the norm.
For example parapluie in French meaning an umbrella (litt. counter-rain) Or paranormal, something which is beyond normal.
Pará is a geographic region in Brazil, not connected with para.
