Pancharatna Kritis

Pancharatna kritis (Sanskrit pancham, five + ratnam, gem) is used to denote a set of five kritis(songs) in Carnatic music.

Various composers have contributed different sets of Pancharatna Kritis. The most famous among the different Pancharatna Kritis are those composed in Telugu1 by Saint Tyagaraja, one of the composers in the Trimurti of Carnatic music.

The Pancharatna Kritis of Thyagaraja consist of the following :-

  1. JagadAnandha KAraka - Raga Naata
  2. Dudukugala - Raga Gowla
  3. SAdhinchane - Raga Arabhi
  4. Kanakana Ruchira - Raga Varali
  5. Endaro MahAnubhAvulu - Raga Sri

Jagadanandakaraka (Raga Nattai)

In this song, Tyagaraja is in all praise for his lord Sree Ramachandra. He eulogizes Ramachandra as one who is the cause of all bliss in the Universe. This is the only kriti that was composed in Sanskrit.
