|
Palmerston is an Australian city, it is a satellite city of the Northern Territory capital, Darwin. Originally, Palmerston was the name given in 1855 to Darwin itself. Darwin assumed its current name in 1911.
The land for modern Palmerston was acquired in 1971 by the Australian federal government after concerns of undersupply of residential land in Darwin. It was incorporated in 1981 and in 2000 was proclaimed the Northern Territory's second and newest city.
The Charles Darwin University (CDU) has a campus opposite the city's main bus terminal.
