Palmer is an unincorporated community located in Marquette County, Michigan. It is a Census-designated place (CDP) used for statistical purposes. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 449.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 449 people, 177 households, and 109 families residing in the community. The population density is 293.8/km² (760.8/mi²). There are 193 housing units at an average density of 126.3/km² (327.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 96.44% White, 0.00% African American, 1.34% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 2.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 177 households out of which 27.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.2% are married couples living together, 9.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.4% are non-families. 35.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.99.
In the community the population is spread out with 19.6% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 24.5% who are 65 years of age or older. Palmer is flanked by the Empire Mine, ran by Clevelend Cliffs Incorporated. Businesses include Handy's Grocery (officially "Ski's"), the bank, Andy's TV Repair, Fran's gas station (official business name: "Francis J. Nelson"), and the Cascade Inn. Trewhella's IGA Grocery store closed years ago.
