The racial makeup of the town is 54.34% White, 35.82% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.99% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 7.22% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. 8.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 964 households out of which 30.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.4% are married couples living together, 20.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.5% are non-families. 28.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
