Oscar Salazar (baseball)
|
Oscar Enrique Salazar (born June 27, 1978 in Aragua State, Venezuela) is a Major League Baseball infielder who has played with the Detroit Tigers (2002).
Signed by Oakland as an amateur free agent in 1994, Salazar was selected off waivers by Detroit in 2002, making his debut in that season.
In one season as a backup with the Tigers, Salazar batted .190 with one home run and three RBI in three games.
In 2003 Salazar was diagnosed with injuries in his arm and shoulder which required season-ending surgery. He worked out in 2004 spring training, but his recovery was slower than expected. Currently, he is playing for the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, a Cleveland Indians' affiliate team.
A good fastball hitter who hits the ball to all fields, Salazar will probably get a chance to return to a major league status. He runs the bases very well, and has some potential as a base stealer. His greatest strength is in the field, where he he shows good range and a fine arm at second base as well as an ability to play shortstop and third base.
