Orcutt is a census-designated place located in Santa Barbara County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 28,830.
Geography
Orcutt is located at 34°52'28" North, 120°25'41" West (34.874550, -120.428067)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 29.3 km² (11.3 mi²). 29.3 km² (11.3 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Orcutt is primarily a bedroom community/suburb of nearby Santa Maria.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 28,830 people, 10,420 households, and 8,023 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 985.1/km² (2,551.0/mi²). There are 10,640 housing units at an average density of 363.6/km² (941.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 86.68% White, 1.40% African American, 0.92% Native American, 3.20% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 3.91% from other races, and 3.81% from two or more races. 14.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 10,420 households out of which 35.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.0% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.0% are non-families. 19.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.14.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.4 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $53,251, and the median income for a family is $59,865. Males have a median income of $49,035 versus $30,700 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $23,373. 4.6% of the population and 2.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.7% of those under the age of 18 and 5.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
