Old Enough is a 1984 teen-oriented movie. It stars Sarah Boyd, Rainbow Harvest, Danny Aiello, Nell Barry, Roxanne Hart, Alyssa Milano and Susan Kingsley.
Placed in middle 1980s New York, Old Enough is the story of a young, poor girl; (played by Harvest, who wears a striking resemblance to Winona Ryder); whose father (played by Aiello) is the owner of the run down apartment complex where they live at, as well as a handy-man, and her friend, a rich, uptown girl (played by Boyd). Milano, in her film debut, plays Boyd's sister.
The poor girl, who has been educated by local nuns in a Catholic church, is very street wise and a rebel, and she teaches her rich friend how to do such things as stealing and surviving on the streets. The rich girl, meanwhile, teaches her friend what living like a rich person is like, and the fact they live so differently, makes them be closer to each other.
Things complicate when Boyd's character falls in love for her friend's brother, (played by Barry). They share a few kisses during the course of the movie, but soon, a sensual new neighbor (played by Hart), moves into the apartment complex, and Barry's character falls in love for her. Harvest's character goes to check out the new neighbors' apartment, and finds a set of handymen tools. Convinced it is her father, not her brother, who is having an affair with the newcomer, she summons her best friend's help to try to find out for sure if her father is having an affair with the woman. Boyd's character then discovers it is her best friend's brother and not her father who is dating the new, mysterious girl. Broken hearted but unwilling to give up their friendship, she lets her best friend know what she found out.
Then, they have an argument and stop talking to each other for a short period, but at the end, they decide their friendship is too important for them to stop being friends forever.
A low budget production, this movie went on to win various awards.
