Okrug
|
Okrug is a term to denote a subnational entity in some Slavic states. Its etymology is similar to German Kreis, circle (in the meaning of administrative division) (although translated in German as Bezirk): okrug is literally something "encircling".
- In subdivisions of Serbia, the term is translated as district, sometimes as county, see Subdivisions of Serbia and Montenegro, Districts of Serbia.
- In Subdivisions of Russia it is translated as district, for three different levels of subdivision:
- Federal District for federalny okrug, as in Siberian Federal District.
- Autonomous district for avtonomny okrug, as in Koryakia Autonomous District.
- Rural district for selsky okrug, as in Dondukovsky Rural District of Adygeya.
