Nyack is a village located in Rockland County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 6,737.
The Village of Nyack is on the border of two towns and is partly in the Town of Clarkstown and partly in the Town of Orangetown. The New York State Thruway and US Route 9W pass through the village.
Geography
Nyack is on the west bank of the Hudson River, north of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.1 km² (1.6 mi²). 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 51.88% water.
Nyack is one of five villages (Nyack, Central Nyack, South Nyack, Upper Nyack, and West Nyack) that make up an area of southeastern Rockland County called The Nyacks. Named by the Native Americans that visited here prior to colonization, the village itself lies on the hilly terrain that meets the western shore of the Hudson River.
The village consists mostly of low-rise buildings that lie along a cozy portion of the Hudson River. It wasn't until recently that high-rise buildings, mostly residential, mutated the skyline. Though its population is not so great, it is considerably large considering that the village of Nyack only takes up a total area of approximately 4.1 square kilometers, with over 50% of the area consisting of the water of the Hudson River.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,737 people, 3,188 households, and 1,511 families residing in the village. The population density is 3,378.1/km² (8,749.1/mi²). There are 3,288 housing units at an average density of 1,648.7/km² (4,270.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 63.81% White, 26.33% African American, 0.21% Native American, 2.42% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 2.66% from other races, and 4.56% from two or more races. 8.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,188 households out of which 20.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.0% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 52.6% are non-families. 42.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.10 and the average family size is 2.93.
In the village the population is spread out with 19.0% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 36.2% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $54,890, and the median income for a family is $69,146. Males have a median income of $50,043 versus $35,202 for females. The per capita income for the village is $32,699. 6.0% of the population and 2.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.3% of those under the age of 18 and 8.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
