A general election to the Storting, the parliament of Norway, was held on 15 September 1997. The Labour Party, led by Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland, won a plurality of seats but was unable to form a government, and was replaced by a coalition of the Christian People's Party, Liberal Left and Centre Party under Kjell Magne Bondevik.
