Northumberland is a town located in Saratoga County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,603.

History
The town was formed in 1798 from the Town of Saratoga.
Geography
The east town line is the border of Washington County, New York.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 85.2 km² (32.9 mi²). 83.8 km² (32.3 mi²) of it is land and 1.4 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.67% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,603 people, 1,593 households, and 1,264 families residing in the town. The population density is 54.9/km² (142.3/mi²). There are 1,717 housing units at an average density of 20.5/km² (53.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.09% White, 0.54% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. 0.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,593 households out of which 44.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.1% are married couples living together, 7.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.6% are non-families. 14.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.88 and the average family size is 3.18.
In the town the population is spread out with 30.0% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 36.6% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 7.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.6 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $51,559, and the median income for a family is $53,523. Males have a median income of $36,964 versus $28,185 for females.
