Northbrook, Illinois

Northbrook is a village located in Cook County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 33,435.
When incorporated in 1901, the village was known as Shermerville, in honor of Frederick Schermer who donated the land for its first train station. The village changed its name in 1923 in an effort to improve its public image.
Northbrook has recently been in the news with coverage of high school Glenbrook North.
Geography
Northbrook is located at 42°7'45" North, 87°50'27" West (42.129226, -87.840715)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 33.6 km² (13.0 mi²). 33.5 km² (12.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.39% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 33,435 people, 12,203 households, and 9,676 families residing in the village. The population density is 999.2/km² (2,588.1/mi²). There are 12,492 housing units at an average density of 373.3/km² (967.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 89.22% White, 0.57% African American, 0.04% Native American, 8.85% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. 1.84% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 12,203 households out of which 35.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 72.3% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.7% are non-families. 18.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 3.07.
In the village the population is spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 21.8% from 25 to 44, 29.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 93.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.0 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $95,665, and the median income for a family is $110,778. Males have a median income of $83,206 versus $46,182 for females. The per capita income for the village is $50,765. 2.3% of the population and 1.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 1.4% of those under the age of 18 and 4.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
