Sumatera Utara or North Sumatra is one of the provinces of Indonesia. Its capital is Medan.

Geographic and Demographic
North Sumatra, as its name implies, is located in the northern part of the island of Sumatra. To the northwest it borders Aceh province. To the southeast it borders Riau and West Sumatra province. To the northeast is the Straits of Malacca. To the southwest is the Indian Ocean.
North Sumatra has a population of more than 11 million, and has an area of 70787 kmē.
