"North Star" is the title of an episode from the third season of the television series Star Trek: Enterprise. Its episode number is 061, and it first aired on 12 November 2003.
Plot summary
This is a summary of a beginning portion of the episode. Please note that the events described in this summary are not necessarily in the same chronological order in which they occur on screen.
The episode itself begins as if it's not a Star Trek episode, but rather a western. While a few scenes in the episode occur aboard Enterprise, most of the episode takes place in a town obviously meant to appear typical of the American Old West. The environment looks looks like a desert—similar, perhaps, to the Mojave Desert.
While traveling in the Delphic Expanse, the Enterprise encounters a planet home to the small settlement. Apparently, without even visiting the settlement in person, the crew was able to determine that its culture is practically identical to that of the American Old West: when Archer, T'Pol, and Trip visit the settlement (presumably for the first time), they are wearing clothing appropriate for that time and location on Earth.
After the three crewmembers arrive in the town, their ultimate purpose is apparently to discover the origin of the settlement, and the people living in it. After all, to find a traditional human culture thriving in an extraterrestrial location is acutely surprising. On the surface of the planet, T'Pol makes some progress by determining that the DNA carried by the inhabitants is identical to that of the human species; the people are, by biological analysis, perfectly human, placed on that world by aliens called Skagarans.
