North Merrick is located at 40°41'8" North, 73°33'29" West (40.685691, -73.558116)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.6 km² (1.8 mi²). 4.6 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.56% is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 11,844 people, 3,963 households, and 3,285 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 2,583.6/km² (6,690.0/mi²). There are 4,004 housing units at an average density of 873.4/km² (2,261.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 93.57% White, 1.07% African American, 0.09% Native American, 3.19% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.71% from other races, and 1.31% from two or more races. 3.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 3,963 households out of which 38.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.6% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.1% are non-families. 14.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.99 and the average family size is 3.30.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.4% who are 65 years of age or older.
