North-Eastern Hill University was set up as a central university on 19th July 1973 to cater the needs of north eastern states of India. The university has its main campus in Shillong. The jurisdiction of the University extended to the states of Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
The university has following schools and departments - Schools Of Physical Science, Schools Of Social Science, Schools Of Life Science, Schools Of Humanities And Education, Schools Of Human And Environmental Science, Schools Of Economics, Management And Information Science.
