North Bennington is a village located in Bennington County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,428. It is home to the Park-McCullough Historic House, a well-preserved, 35-room, Victorian country house.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.8 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.06% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,428 people, 454 households, and 267 families residing in the village. The population density is 294.8/km² (763.4/mi²). There are 499 housing units at an average density of 103.0/km² (266.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.38% White, 0.70% African American, 0.14% Native American, 1.68% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 1.82% from two or more races. 1.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 454 households out of which 31.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.4% are married couples living together, 9.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.0% are non-families. 35.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 3.02.
