Norfolk is a town located in St. Lawrence County in the US state of New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,565.
The Town of Norfolk is in the northern part of the county.

History
The town was formed in 1823 from part of the Town of Louisville.
Geography
The Raquette River flows through part of the town.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 149.5 km² (57.7 mi²). 147.4 km² (56.9 mi²) of it is land and 2.2 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.47% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,565 people, 1,803 households, and 1,280 families residing in the town. The population density is 31.0/km² (80.2/mi²). There are 1,959 housing units at an average density of 13.3/km² (34.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.06% White, 0.42% Black or African American, 1.07% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. 0.55% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,803 households out of which 31.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.1% are married couples living together, 10.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.0% are non-families. 21.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 2.91.
In the town the population is spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 98.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $33,492, and the median income for a family is $37,644. Males have a median income of $35,769 versus $19,732 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,099. 14.7% of the population and 9.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 20.7% of those under the age of 18 and 13.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
