Nick Faldo

Nicholas Alexander Faldo , generally known as Nick Faldo (born July 18 1957 in Welwyn Garden City) is an English golfer on the PGA European Tour. He is one of Europe's the most successful golfers. Faldo turned professional in 1976.

He has won six golf majors: The Open Championship in 1987, 1990 and 1992, and The Masters in 1989, 1990 and 1996.

In 1977, Faldo became the youngest player to appear in the Ryder Cup. In total, Faldo has represented the European team a record 11 times in the Ryder Cup. Having won 23 of his matches, lost 19, and halved 4, he also holds the record for having played the most Ryder Cup matches.

Faldo was named the PGA TOUR Player of the Year in 1990, and the European Tour Player of the Year in 1989, 1990 and 1992. He was the PGA European Tour Order of Merit winner (also known as the "money list") in 1983 and 1992. He has won 30 European Tour titles. His European Tour career earnings, as of June 2004, are €7,783,939, placing him 13th on the all-time list.

In 1996, Nick launched the Faldo Series to encourage young golfers and give them some experience of top level competition.

He is currently married to his third wife Valerie and has 4 children, Natalie, Matthew, Georgia and Emma Scarlet.

He was awarded the M.B.E in 1998.

PGA Tour

Major championships are shown in bold. The PGA tour did not recognise The Open Championship as an official event until 1995, but in 2002 it retroactively recognised all Open Championship wins as PGA Tour wins.

European Tour

In total, 27 official wins including three Open Championships which are also included in Faldo's PGA Tour win tally. The European Tour did not begin to recognise the three U.S. based majors as part of its schedule until 1998, two years after Faldo's last Masters victory.
