Nicholas II, Duke of Lorraine
|
Nicholas II (December 12 1612 – January 25 1670), was Duke of Lorraine between 1634 and 1661, when he abdicated for his son. He was the youngest son of duke Francis II of Lorraine, destined to the church. Nicholas was Cardinal of Lorraine until 1634, when the forced abdication of his older brother Charles turned him into the Duke. He then married his cousin Claudia of Lorraine, daughter of duke Henry I. In 1661 he himself abdicated the throne, making way again for his older brother
