Newport is a city located in Pend Oreille County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,921. It is the county seat of Pend Oreille CountyTemplate:GR.

Newport was officially incorporated on April 16, 1903.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.7 km² (1.1 mi²). 2.7 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,921 people, 760 households, and 471 families residing in the city. The population density is 699.7/km² (1,814.7/mi²). There are 820 housing units at an average density of 298.7/km² (774.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.64% White, 0.00% African American, 0.57% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 1.15% from other races, and 2.65% from two or more races. 2.97% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 760 households out of which 32.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.8% are married couples living together, 15.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.9% are non-families. 33.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 3.09.
In the city the population is spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 86.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.9 males.
