New Hope Valley Railroad
|
The New Hope Valley Railroad connected the city of Durham, North Carolina with the former Seaboard Air Line Railway (now CSX) in the small town of Bonsal, on the Wake/Chatham county line. Construction began in 1904 and the railway was abandoned in 1979.
The southern part of the New Hope railway is still in use as a scenic rail tour; the northern part, from the community of Olive Chapel north to Durham, is in the process of being reborn as the American Tobacco Trail.
