Nether Providence Township is a township located in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 13,456.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 12.2 km² (4.7 mi²). 12.2 km² (4.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.21% is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 13,456 people, 5,007 households, and 3,755 families residing in the township. The population density is 1,103.1/km² (2,857.7/mi²). There are 5,125 housing units at an average density of 420.1/km² (1,088.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 90.08% White, 6.12% African American, 0.10% Native American, 2.34% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.27% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. 1.13% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,007 households out of which 34.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.3% are married couples living together, 9.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% are non-families. 21.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.08.
In the township the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 90.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.8 males.

Education System
Nether Providence lies within the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District (W-SSD). School-age children within the public education system attend the Kids' Place for kindergarten, Wallingford Elementary School (WES) or Nether Providence Elementary (NPE) for grades 1-5, Strath Haven Middle School (SHMS) for grades 6-8, and Strath Haven High School (SHHS) for grades 9-12. Students from the nieghboring borough of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania also attend the Middle School and High School, as well as Swarthmore Elementary School (SRS).
