National Recreation Trail

National Recreation Trail is a designation given to existing trails in the United States that connect people to local resources and improve their quality of life. Since the program began, more than 800 trails on federal, state, local and privately owned land have been given this designation.
National Recreation Trails were authorized under the National Trails System Act of 1968.
