Napier University

Napier University is a University in Edinburgh, Scotland. Napier was founded as "Napier Technical College", taking it's name from John Napier, the inventor of logarithms. Since 1971 it has offered degree level education, and gained full university status in 1992, along with the other former-Polytechnics.
It was ranked joint 90th overall amongst UK universities in a 2004 article published in the Financial Times. It is noted for its journalism courses which are considered to be of a high standard with some lecturers giving expert testimony to the Scottish Parliament.
The university is based around its Craiglockhart, Craighouse and Merchiston campuses.
The Merchiston campus is built around the remains of Merchiston Castle where John Napier was born. This campus plays host to the sports, science and engineering courses. It is also where one of the two student bars is based "Bar 12".
The Craiglockhart campus is notable for including the former Craiglockhart War Hospital where war-poets Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon were treated. This campus is the home of the business courses and is also marketed as a confrence centre. Tony Blair visited conducted a visit there in 2004.
The Craighouse campus is based around the former Thomas Clouston Clinic which was a mental hospital until around 1990. This campus is home to the social science and communicaition arts courses.
