History
Napavine was officially incorporated on November 21, 1913.
Geography
Napavine is located at 46°34'45" North, 122°54'39" West (46.579284, -122.910935)Template:GR.According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,361 people, 444 households, and 349 families residing in the city. The population density is 656.9/km² (1,702.5/mi²). There are 474 housing units at an average density of 228.8/km² (592.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 93.02% White, 0.15% African American, 1.54% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.29% Pacific Islander, 3.31% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. 5.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 444 households out of which 47.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% are married couples living together, 16.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.2% are non-families. 16.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.05 and the average family size is 3.45.
In the city the population is spread out with 37.0% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 17.0% from 45 to 64, and 8.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $40,966, and the median income for a family is $41,250. Males have a median income of $38,750 versus $26,103 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,275. 13.0% of the population and 12.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.8% of those under the age of 18 and 11.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Politics
Napavine is the most heavily Republican incorporated area in Lewis County, and among the most Republican in the entirety of western Washington State. The results for the 2004 U.S. Presidential Election were as follows:
