Nanticoke is a city located in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 10,955.

History
Nanticoke is where Samuel H. Kress opened his first store, which grew into the national S. H. Kress & Co. chain.
Nanticoke was the birthplace of congressman Paul E. Kanjorski.
Geography
Nanticoke is located at 41°11'58" North, 75°59'57" West (41.199514, -75.999119)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.3 km² (3.6 mi²). 9.1 km² (3.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.05% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 10,955 people, 4,850 households, and 2,905 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,205.1/km² (3,124.0/mi²). There are 5,487 housing units at an average density of 603.6/km² (1,564.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.84% White, 0.27% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. 0.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,850 households out of which 23.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.6% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.1% are non-families. 35.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.88.
In the city the population is spread out with 19.7% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 23.7% from 45 to 64, and 23.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 87.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.3 males.
