National Basketball Development League

The National Basketball Development League is the NBA's officially sponsored and operated developmental basketball organization. The NBDL, more commonly known as the "D-League," currently consists of six teams, all in the southeastern United States. In March 2005, NBA commissioner David Stern announced a plan to expand the NBDL to fifteen teams and develop it into a true minor league farm system.
The league began play in 2001-2002 season.
