Muir Beach, located about 2 miles from the entrance to Muir Woods, is a city and beach located across the bay from San Francisco. The beach is about 300 yars wide and 100 yards long, with course sand and several large boulders. There is a parking lot at the beach. You need to walk over a rustic footbridge and a stream to get to the beach.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 295 people, 131 households, and 69 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 232.4/km² (596.8/mi²). There are 144 housing units at an average density of 113.5/km² (291.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 92.88% White, 0.34% African American, 0.00% Native American, 2.71% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.03% from other races, and 2.03% from two or more races. 2.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 131 households out of which 19.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.0% are married couples living together, 5.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 46.6% are non-families. 30.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.67.
