Mount Vernon is a census-designated place located in Somerset County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 761.
Geography
Mount Vernon is located at 38°14'58" North, 75°47'51" West (38.249456, -75.797422)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 41.2 km² (15.9 mi²). 34.0 km² (13.1 mi²) of it is land and 7.3 km² (2.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 17.59% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 761 people, 311 households, and 227 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 22.4/km² (58.0/mi²). There are 402 housing units at an average density of 11.8/km² (30.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 75.69% White, 23.26% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. 0.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
