Mount Pleasant is a village located in Racine County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 23,142. The village was formerly known as the Town of Mount Pleasant. On September 16, 2003, the entire town incorporated as the village following a referendum passed by the residents.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 94.5 km² (36.5 mi²). 90.5 km² (34.9 mi²) of it is land and 4.0 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.28% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 23,142 people, 9,453 households, and 6,513 families residing in the village. The population density is 255.8/km² (662.6/mi²). There are 9,768 housing units at an average density of 108.0/km² (279.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 89.17% White, 6.39% African American, 0.26% Native American, 1.21% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.83% from other races, and 1.11% from two or more races. 4.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 9,453 households out of which 27.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% are married couples living together, 7.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.1% are non-families. 27.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.93.

In the village the population is spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $52,869, and the median income for a family is $63,937. Males have a median income of $47,871 versus $31,317 for females. The per capita income for the village is $27,123. 4.3% of the population and 2.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 5.4% of those under the age of 18 and 5.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
