Mount Morris is a village located in the Town of Mount Morris in Livingston County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 3,266.
The Village of Mount Morris is at the eastern entrance to Letchworth State Park, a scenic gorge and triple waterfall on the Genesee River.

History
The Village of Mount Morris on the Genesee River was formed in 1818. It was named after Robert Morris, the financier of the American Revolution, and later owner of the The Morris Reserve, from which the lands around Mount Morris were sold to settlers.
Just upsteam from the village is the Mount Morris Dam (550 ft/168 m long, 216 ft/66 m high), which was built between 1948 and 1952 for flood control of the lower Genesee Valley. An earlier and much smaller dam, still extant in the village, was used for mills; now it is a small hydroelectric generating station.
The main trade route in the town's early days was the Genesee Valley Canal which ran from the Erie Canal at Rochester to Wellsville and Olean. The Friends of the Genesee Valley Greenway have built hiking trails along some of the canal route. The canal was abandoned in the 1870s and later used as a railroad right of way for a succession of railroads, which eventually consolidated into the Pennsylvania Railroad.
Mount Morris Academy was an important early school. Mary Seymour Howell, a native daughter was a suffragette and associate of Susan B. Anthony. She died in 1913. Other noted natives have been Francis Bellamy, the author of the "Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag," John Wesley Powell, the first white man to navigate and chart the Colorado River, and Roscoe C. Barnes, the first batting champion of the National Baseball League.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 5.3 km² (2.0 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,266 people, 1,307 households, and 794 families residing in the village. The population density is 621.2/km² (1,606.0/mi²). There are 1,412 housing units at an average density of 268.6/km² (694.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 94.18% White, 1.13% Black or African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.51% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. 5.79% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,307 households out of which 29.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.6% are married couples living together, 16.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.2% are non-families. 31.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.94.
In the village the population is spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 87.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.1 males.
The median income for a household in the village is $31,792, and the median income for a family is $37,143. Males have a median income of $32,464 versus $20,052 for females. The per capita income for the village is $15,107. 14.3% of the population and 12.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 21.8% of those under the age of 18 and 10.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
