Mount Hutt, New Zealand

Mount Hutt rises to the west of the Canterbury Plains in the South Island of New Zealand, above the braided upper reaches of the Rakaia River. Its summit is 2190 metres above sea level. The mountain is located 20 kilometres northwest of the town of Methven. Christchurch is 80 kilometres to the northeast of Mount Hutt.
The mountain features the largest ski area in the South Island. It is good for intermediate skiers with some beginner and advanced runs. There is good access to vast off piste areas. The snow season is from May to October/November.
Since there is no accommodation on the mountain, most visitors stay in Methven.
