Mount Charleston is a census-designated place located in Clark County, Nevada. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 285.

Named for Mount Charleston, the highest point in the area, the town is in a valley of the Spring Mountains to the northwest of Las Vegas, noted for its hiking trails, and for the Mount Charleston Lodge, a rustic hotel. Temperatures are from 20 to 30 degrees (F.) lower than in Las Vegas, making it a popular place for Las Vegans to go to escape the heat.

Mount Charleston is located at 36°15'29" North, 115°38'6" West (36.258157, -115.635053)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 76.0 km² (29.4 mi²). 76.0 km² (29.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 285 people, 133 households, and 80 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 3.7/km² (9.7/mi²). There are 362 housing units at an average density of 4.8/km² (12.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.54% White, 1.05% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.35% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 0.35% from two or more races. 2.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 133 households out of which 18.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.8% are non-families. 29.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.14 and the average family size is 2.69.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 15.8% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 21.8% from 25 to 44, 45.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 119.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 124.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $63,125, and the median income for a family is $67,625. Males have a median income of $75,471 versus $35,938 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $38,821. 0.0% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line.
