Mounds View is a city located in Ramsey County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 12,738.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.7 km² (4.1 mi²). 10.6 km² (4.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.48% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 12,738 people, 5,018 households, and 3,387 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,196.6/km² (3,096.6/mi²). There are 5,130 housing units at an average density of 481.9/km² (1,247.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 90.65% White, 2.40% African American, 0.66% Native American, 3.12% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.02% from other races, and 2.09% from two or more races. 2.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 5,018 households out of which 33.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.8% are married couples living together, 12.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% are non-families. 23.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.02.
In the city the population is spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 22.4% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $51,974, and the median income for a family is $60,685. Males have a median income of $37,418 versus $29,196 for females. The per capita income for the city is $24,271. 5.9% of the population and 4.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.4% of those under the age of 18 and 5.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
There are a few residential sections of Mounds View, suprisingly for its small size. The fundamental divide is between those who live on the North Side of County Road 10 and those who live on the South Side. Varying people from varying sides will tell you theirs is the best. (it's all a crock.) The city is primarily residential with "better" areas being concentrated away from County Road 10, either on the North Side of County Road I or near Silverview park.
