Kinostudiya "Mosfilm" (in Cyrillic, Мосфи́льм) was a film production unit with studio facilities established in November of 1923 by the Soviet Union as a unit of the State Committee for Cinematography. Located in Moscow in the R.S.F.S.R., Mosfilm was one of the major production units for feature films in the Soviet film industry to the end of the Soviet Union. Many Soviet film classics were produced and filmed at Mosfilm throughout its history, many of which were granted International awards at various Film festivals. After the fall of the Soviet empire, it continued operations as a quasi-private production company in the new Russian Republic (see Mosfilm (Russia)).
