School System

The school system currently has a very strong athletic department. In 2005 the boys varsity basketball team from Morton High School, the only high school in the community, won not only the state championship but the state cup as well. The academics and arts of the high school are not as strong however, sevral incidents of teachers passing students with below standard grades have been suspected, though nothing can be confirmed, the obvious reason for this being athletic benefits. The arts have been neglected completely, a rumor is passing that the marching band will probably be discontinued in a few years. The One Act Play has often had to recruit to get 6 members and almost always places last at competitions.

The town was once mentioned on a national television show by First Lady Laura Bush, she made a comment about visiting the town during a fourth of July parade and noted that the parade was pitiful and the high school marching band didn't even march in it.
