Moorestown Township is a township located in Burlington County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 19,017. Vernon Hill's 4,260 m² (45,854 ft²) mansion, the largest private residence in the State of New Jersey, is located in Moorestown.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 38.7 km² (14.9 mi²). 38.3 km² (14.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.07% water.
Moorestown Township borders Maple Shade Township, Cinnaminson Township, Delran Township, Willingboro Township, and Mount Laurel Township.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 19,017 people, 6,971 households, and 5,270 families residing in the township. The population density is 497.1/km² (1,287.3/mi²). There are 7,211 housing units at an average density of 188.5/km² (488.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 89.19% White, 5.69% African American, 0.16% Native American, 3.27% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 1.26% from two or more races. 1.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 6,971 households out of which 37.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.3% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.4% are non-families. 21.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 3.13.
In the township the population is spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.9 males.
The median income for a household in the township is $78,826, and the median income for a family is $94,844. Males have a median income of $74,773 versus $39,148 for females.
