Monticello is a city located in Jefferson County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,533. It is the county seat of Jefferson CountyTemplate:GR.

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,533 people, 973 households, and 664 families residing in the city. The population density is 289.3/km² (749.4/mi²). There are 1,088 housing units at an average density of 124.3/km² (321.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 47.06% White, 50.85% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. 1.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 973 households out of which 29.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.3% are married couples living together, 23.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% are non-families. 27.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 3.03.
