Miss Kitty Fantastico, or MKF, is the pet kitten of Willow and Tara in the television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Introduced at the end of season four, MKF only appeared in three episodes. After season four, Miss Kitty Fantastico simply disappeared from the show, and for a long time this was never explained. It is possible that the producers found working with an animal difficult.
In season six, it was revealed that some demons use kittens as a comestible currency, and there ensued speculation that Miss Kitty Fantastico had met just such a demise. However, the truth was finally uncovered in the penultimate episode of season seven, "End of Days", when Dawn revealed that MKF was involved in an unfortunate crossbow accident (whether as victim or cause is not made clear).
Fandom
Despite her short run of appearances, MKF developed a cult following among fans, especially fans of Willow and Tara, who were becoming a lesbian couple around the same time. The very name "Miss Kitty Fantastico" has therefore been interpreted by some as meaning "pussy is great". A major fansite for Willow and Tara - The Kitten, The Witches and The Bad Wardrobe - is affectionately known as The Kitten, in reference to Miss Kitty Fantastico.
The connotations of the word "kitty" notwithstanding, the name also may be a salute to the saloon girl, later saloon owner, Miss Kitty, played by Amanda Blake in the long-running television series Gunsmoke.
