Fleetwood Mac Chronology | ||
Tusk (1979) | Mirage (1982) | Tango in the Night (1987) |
Mirage is an 1982 album by Fleetwood Mac, sometimes thought to be an attempt to follow up on the success of 1977's Rumours.
Mirage saw the band abandoning the experimental direction of Tusk in favour of familiar ground. Christine McVie's honey-smooth multi-layered harmonies open the album with "Love In Store" and reach their peak on the dreamy "Only Over You"; Stevie Nicks had more mystical moments with the Top 10 smash "Gypsy" and the country-tinged "That's All Right"; even Lindsey Buckingham seemed to have trouble gaining creative ground, with a 1960s pastiche in the shape of "Oh Diane", while "Eyes of The World" borrowed the central riff from Pachelbel's "Canon". On the upside, "Book Of Love" contains some wonderful gospelly notes and "Straight Back" captures the archetypal early 80s sound.
The album reached number one in the UK.
