Michigan State Highway 205
|
Michigan State Highway 205, or M-205, was decommissioned in November 2002 by the Michigan Department of Transportation after the completion of Michigan State Highway 217/Michiana Parkway. The MDOT swapped roads with the Cass County Road Commission ending the 67-year history of M-205. However, the M-205 designation can still be seen on many maps, including those available from the MDOT as recently as June 2004.
M-205 was a very short highway that ran from U.S. Highway 12 (the old U.S. Highway 112) and the Indiana state line, where it continues as Indiana State Highway 19, connecting to Elkhart, Indiana. Its intersection with US 12 (and northern terminus) was between Union and Adamsville. It went through no towns within Michigan.
On the original US Highway plan, US 112 followed what is now M-205 into Indiana. Michigan diverted what was then US 112 along a route entirely within Michigan, and the very short, but locally important segment of cut-off highway became M-205.
