Metzger, Oregon

Metzger is a census-designated place and neighborhood of Tigard, Oregon, located in Washington County. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 3,354.

History

Henry Metzger platted the community Metzger in 1910. The south branch of the Oregon Electric Railway passed through the community, and had a stop that was located off Locust Street east of Jefferson.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,354 people, 1,500 households, and 831 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 1,750.0/km² (4,556.0/mi²). There are 1,583 housing units at an average density of 825.9/km² (2,150.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 86.02% White, 2.71% Asian, 1.10% African American, 0.92% Native American, 0.98% Pacific Islander, 4.38% from other races, and 3.88% from two or more races. 8.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,500 households out of which 26.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.0% are married couples living together, 8.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.6% are non-families. 35.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.92.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 35.6% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 97.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.8 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $41,361, and the median income for a family is $57,159. Males have a median income of $40,139 versus $28,023 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $24,121. 7.0% of the population and 4.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.8% of those under the age of 18 and 9.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
