Meshoppen is a borough located in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 459.
Geography
Meshoppen is located at 41°36'53" North, 76°2'47" West (41.614691, -76.046276)Template:GR.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 459 people, 175 households, and 113 families residing in the borough. The population density is 249.6/km² (642.7/mi²). There are 209 housing units at an average density of 113.7/km² (292.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 99.35% White, 0.00% African American, 0.22% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 0.22% from two or more races. 0.22% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 175 households out of which 38.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.7% are married couples living together, 19.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% are non-families. 27.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.19.
In the borough the population is spread out with 34.9% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 17.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.7 males.
The median income for a household in the borough is $26,324, and the median income for a family is $26,375. Males have a median income of $26,161 versus $15,714 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $13,408. 20.2% of the population and 16.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 34.8% of those under the age of 18 and 15.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
